Why Terminology Matters in Health Insurance!
Terminology matters because small differences in wording can have significant financial consequences for health plan members. One of the most misunderstood phrases is the difference between a provider being in network and a provider accepting a health plan.
An in-network provider has a contractual agreement with the insurance company to provide services at negotiated rates. These providers are included in the plan’s network, allowing members to receive the highest level of benefits and the lowest out-of-pocket costs.
By contrast, a provider who simply accepts a plan may submit claims to the insurance company but does not have a network contract. While the provider may be willing to see the patient, services could be processed as out-of-network, resulting in higher deductibles, coinsurance, or balance billing.
When members confuse these terms, they may unknowingly receive care from out-of-network providers and face unexpected medical bills. Understanding the terminology helps members make informed decisions and avoid costly surprises.

An Update on Our Grandson, Wesley
Many of you have kindly asked about our grandson, Wesley, and how he has been doing, so we wanted to take a moment to provide an update and express our gratitude for the care and support our family has received.
Since Christmas, Wesley has been battling nephrotic syndrome, a condition that has resulted in four hospital stays over the past several months. It has been a challenging season for him and for our family as we have navigated treatments, setbacks, and many unknowns along the way.
We are grateful to share that Wesley is doing much better. A new treatment plan has made a significant difference, and he has now been home for several weeks. While he continues to receive weekly infusions to help keep things moving in the right direction, his progress has been very encouraging.
Perhaps the best news of all is that through everything he has faced, Wesley has remained his happy, delightful self. His smile, resilience, and positive spirit continue to inspire all of us every day.
We are deeply thankful for the many prayers, kind messages, thoughtful inquiries, and words of encouragement we have received. Your support has been a tremendous source of comfort and strength during this journey. Knowing that so many people have been thinking of Wesley and keeping our family in their hearts has meant more than we can adequately express.
Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers as Wesley continues his recovery. We remain hopeful and grateful for the progress he has made.
